Pretzel Heath Bars

This was new to me...well, new AND old I guess!

I've made Heath Bars for years, they are one of our favorites.  BUT I have never made them with pretzels, just soda crackers.

I decided to give them a try after a friend told me that's how she always makes them. I knew it would taste great, but would it be better than with the crackers?

The answer is they are BOTH delicious!

We couldn't decide. The only difference was really in the texture. The soda crackers are a bit softer and tend to melt in your mouth, while the pretzels are very crunchy. Both add that salt factor that is so irresistible with chocolate and caramel!

Heath Pretzel Bars

3 1/2 to 4 c. pretzels ( any shape is ok)
1 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 bag chocolate chips

Line a jelly roll pan with foil. Place pretzels on pan in single layer. Melt the butter and brown sugar, bring to a boil and boil for 2 to 3 minutes. Pour over the pretzels and bake at 400 for 5 minutes, it will bubble some. Take out and sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Return to oven for just a minute or less until the chips melt. Take out and spread evenly with a knife. Cool and place in refrigerate until hardened. Take out and break into pieces. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer.

Good grief, I gain a pound or two every time I come here, love your recipes! These bars sound so good and I'm sure they'd disappear very quickly.
