Walnut Frosties...Mondays with Mom

Rich, creamy, butter scotchy , nutty goodness!

Brown sugar and walnuts, they just go together.

Then something magic happens when you add the sour cream. I'm not kidding, the filling on these cookies is awesome. I have a hard time not eating it before I put it on the cookies.

I haven't had these old time cookies for years. My mom used to make them for rug club.

What is rug club you ask?

Several of my moms friends would get together and make rugs from rags. They made oval braided rugs, and rugs that were tied together in strips on special made wagon wheels. They called it  "rug club."

The rugs were often donated or given away to friends and relatives. One of the ladies who taught them how to make rugs also sold them for income. My mom was always buying them to help her out.

We always had plenty of rugs!

Anyway, of course when they got together they took turns serving coffee. I remember my mom making cookies similar to these Walnut Frosties. When I was reading one of my church cookbooks I came across this recipe and it made me think of mom and rug club. I checked to see if I had the recipe she used, but I couldn't find it.

But after making these sweet goodies, I think this recipe is pretty close to what I remember!

Walnut Frosties

1/2 c. butter, softened
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. brown sugar
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt

Filling:
1 c. chopped walnuts ( I think pecans would be great too)
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. sour cream

Cream the butter and sugar. Mix in the egg and vanilla. Add the dry ingredients and mix well. Shape into 1 in. balls. Make a depression  in the center and spoon in 1 tsp. of the  filling. Bake at 350 for 12-14 minutes until light brown.
