Peppermint Meltaways

These little goodies just melt in your mouth. Really....they are so rich and buttery. Definitely one of my favorites. In fact, I like these so much I have to give most of them away or I eat them all.

What a fun addition to a cookie tray...nothing says Christmas like candy canes!

Here is the recipe and the page I made for my scrapbook:

Be sure to check out all the other 12 weeks of Christmas goodies! Thanks to meal planning magic for hosting this blog hop.

I am sooo glad I am not the only one thinking of candy canes right now. These meltaways sound perfect for the holidays with a big mug of cocoa.

I bought candy canes on clearance last year after Christmas so I could have a ton of them to crush up and use for baking. These are perfect! I will have to try them for sure!

What a festive treat! You know you have a good recipe when you have to give them away to keep from eating them all yourself!

Mine keep breaking apart, is this normal?

I tried these today and they were great!! I plan on using these for this years cookie exchange at work. Thank you for sharing.

I am having the same issue...they are simply crumbs. Taste great but will not stay together. Any suggestions?

Mine just melted into a big pile of goo half way through baking :-(

Does anyone know how many cookies this recipe yields?

I made this this afternoon. Turned out very well. I chilled the dough in the fridge slightly before forming the cookie's. I made the icing over very low heat on the stove, which it didn't say to do, but seemed to bring the icing together better and make it a nicer consistency for putting on the cookies. I'll make these again.

I too got a giant pile of goo, double checked the recipe and didn't miss a step and all measurements are correct. I don't believe that there is enough flour in this recipe. I am disappointed. It was for a cookie exchange tomorrow and now I have to start over with something else.

Hi!

I'm not sure why some of you are having trouble with the dough...here is the link to the recipe at Taste of Home:

I just made a batch and they turned out perfect!

If its goey, maybe you melted the butter? It should just be softened. It's like a shortbread cookie, so the dough is firm, not goey at all.

Can you tell me if these freeze well? I would like to start my Christmas baking but would like to freeze them until a few days before the big day!
