I hate to admit it, but I have never tried brussel sprouts.
They just didn't sound that good to me.
UNTIL my daughter made this dish for Christmas.
I could have eaten the whole thing myself. I sure have wasted alot of time all these years not eating brussel sprouts. They are delicious in this casserole. So cheesy, with a bit of a crunch from the toasted bread crumbs on top, they are now at the top of my vegetable list!
Brussel Sprouts Gratin
(Food Network Magazine)
2 Tbsp. unsalted butter, cut into pieces
kosher salt
1 lb. brussel sprouts ( she used frozen}
pinch of red pepper flakes
freshly ground pepper
1/2 c. heavy cream
1/2 c. grated white cheddar cheese (she used shredded cheddar}
1/2 c. seasoned bread crumbs
Preheat the oven to 400 and butter a 2 qt. baking dish. Cook the brussel sprouts until tender. Drain and coarsely chop. Toss with red pepper flakes, salt and pepper to taste. Spread in casserole. Pour cream on top and sprinkle with cheese and bread crumbs. Dot with butter. Bake until bubbly and golden, about 15 minutes.
I do that myself sometimes with food. I do not eat something even though I haven't tried it. But I have eaten Brussels sprouts and they are delicious! I love this serving idea! Happy New Year Laurie!
ReplyDeleteMy Hubby loves brussel sprouts, and I on the other hand not so much :-(, but I'm always looking out for new ways to cook them. This sounds and looks really good, and I actually was going to make them for tonight's dinner, but I burned the sprouts while cooking them (frozen) on the stove...I was doing something else, and completely forgot them!!! Anyways, I'm making this dish as soon as I get more sprouts! TFS
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! I actually love brussels sprouts, even just plainly roasted with olive oil and salt. They turn brown and caramelize, pretty delicious if you ask me. But this sounds great too, anything with added cheese is good!
