Nothing ever tasted better than mom's cocoa after cutting down our Christmas tree! Every year we all hopped in the car and went out to the Christmas tree farm to cut down a tree. It was so much fun trudging through the snow looking for that perfect tree! (Well, we had a perfect tree all except one year when my sister picked it out...but that's another story! It may not have been the perfect tree, but the memories made that day were! haha)
When we got home, Dad would put the tree up and get the lights on so us kids could decorate it. Mom would head to the kitchen and make us some cocoa and popcorn.
I love those memories!
While Brent and I did not cut our own tree this year, we did have a real tree. Today we took it down, though. I'm always sad to see it go....
BUT I did make mom's cocoa!
AND it was as good as always!
Continental Cocoa
2 c. milk
2 Tbsp. cocoa
3 Tbsp. sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
1/2 c. hot water
Mix the cocoa, sugar and salt in a sauce pan. Add the hot water and bring to a boil. Boil 2 minutes. Stir constantly. Add the milk .....heat but do not boil. Serve.
I have beem thinking lately about making a cup of cocoa, my Mom used to make it for me too - after reading this, I want it even more!
ReplyDeleteI too love the memories I have of Christmas in childhood. It was so magical. And we always made cocoa from scratch as well. It was delicious! Looks yummy.
ReplyDeleteI can hardly find a good Christmas memory that doesn't involve a cup of hot cocoa! I love hearing about your story, and this recipe looks delicious!

Now I know what to do with my leftover candy canes. Hot chocolate stirrers!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great recipe. :) I know, I just put away and tree and a little sad to see it go. I'm sure this Mocha can lift me up and brighten things up a little. :) Happy New Year to you and your family. Wish you a blessed and healthy 2013!
