Baked Chocolate Donuts...12 weeks of Christmas

I tried another baked donut recipe with my new garage sale donut pan...this time chocolate. Once again I need to warn you.....these are BAKED, not fried, so there is a huge difference in taste. Let's face it, anything fried rocks! But I still have to say they are a very tasty alternative!

The texture was similar to a cake donut. The chocolate flavor was very mild, with just a hint of cinnamon. I iced them with some melted butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk....I didn't measure....just dumped until I got a nice consistency and flavor. I added a few Christmas sprinkles on top.

I think these will be fun to make over the holidays, and will taste great with coffee or a mug of hot chocolate!

Baked Chocolate Donuts
{from FakeGinger}

1 c. flour
2 T. cocoa
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
2 T. butter, melted
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg

Mix the dry ingredients. In a separate bowl., mix the wet. Add together, stirring just until combined. Fill  pans 2/3 full, leaving room to rise, bake 5-10 minutes at 350. Makes 8.

Fried or not, these look perfect! I love the Christmas sprinkles, too. A great healthy alternative to try out with my 6 year old.

Beautiful! I think there are a lot of people who would be happy that they're baked, not fried.

Oooh, I have a donut pan...and I don't know why it didn't occur to me to use it to make Christmas-sprinkled donuts. These look so festive and yummy! I'll be making these on the weekends in December, for sure!
