Home made maple syrup
This is one of my favorite home made pancake syrups. I usually make just half a batch...as it makes quite a bit. I don't know how long it keeps, because it's usually gone in a few days!
My mom used to make her own syrup, she never bought any that I can remember anyway. She would take some brown sugar and add a bit of water and just bring it to a boil. That was it...and we gobbled it up!
But I found this recipe some years ago, and we really like it. I usually have store bought on hand, but once in a while I have a craving for pancakes and there's no syrup! So I dig this out....we love the rich maple flavor on french toast and pancakes!
Home Made Maple Syrup
4 c. sugar
2 tbsp. corn syrup
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
2 c. water
1 tsp.vanilla
1 tsp. maple flavoring
Stir together the sugar, corn syrup, sugar and water until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil and boil 2 minutes, Cool 10 minutes and add the vanilla and maple flavoring. Makes about 4 cups.
