Chinese Pork Chops

I have a new crock pot, but I don't really like it. My old one was acting up so it was time for a new one I guess. It was a country blue, probably from the 80's, so it was time....

 But I miss it!

The new one cooks so quickly, even on low, that I need to keep an eye on it. The chops got done WAY ahead of time. I kept them on warm until dinner,so it all worked out. I guess I should take the crock pot back and try a different one. I hate to say it, as I sound like my mom, but "they just don't make things like they used too."

Anyway, the chops turned out perfect, they are actually one of my favorite crock pot recipes. I usually double the sauce,as it is so good over the rice!

Chinese Pork Chops

4-6 boneless pork loin chops
1 sm. onion, chopped
1/3 c. ketchup
3 Tbsp. brown sugar
3 Tbsp. water
3 tbsp. soy sauce
1 garlic clove, minced
1 tsp. ginger

Place pork chops in slow cooker. Mix the rest of the ingredients and pour on top. cook on low for 3-4 hours until meat is tender. Serve with rice.( 1 pork chop with 1/2 c. rice  and 3 Tbsp. juice is 305 cal. 34 carb. 1 fiber 25 protein)

I don't think trading your crock pot for a different one will help. Sometime ago, the powers that be decided that the old crockpots weren't hot enough. The ones you buy now are much hotter. Lo is like the old hi, so presumably, warm would be the old lo. I agree with you, the old ones were better!

This recipe sounds yummy and I can't wait to try it. BTW, my crockpot was a wedding gift (35 years ago) and is avocado green! Still working like a charm and I dread the day it dies because I agree with you--they don't make them like they used to. My daughter complains all the time about her crockpot cooking things too fast. Don't they know it's supposed to be a slow cooker!

Love your site--have tried so many of your recipes that have become family favorites

I share your sadness over the crockpot. I bought a new one a couple of years ago. It cooked too fast so I bought another one. It did the same thing. My husband researched it and found they now make them that way. It is supposed to make the food reach a higher temp sooner for food safety. I hate it as I now cannot leave dinner in it while at work. Funny that we never got sick for the 25 years I used the old ones! Can't wait to try the pork chops some weekend. They sound delicious!

I'm going to try this out tomorrow night, and I can't wait. Sounds so yummy!! I so agree about crock pots, my new one has almost burnt (weird I know) a couple of dishes before.
Blessings,
